As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the incredible strides we’ve made at Coast to Coast Packhorse. From trail updates to new walking holiday offerings, it’s been a year of exciting developments for our team and our walkers.
Coast to Coast Trail Updates
With the Coast to Coast Trail officially becoming a National Trail in 2025, there’s been significant progress in refreshing and repairing the route. These updates ensure the trail continues to be one of the most iconic walking experiences in the UK. Here are some highlights:
- Repaired Bridges: New bridges at Rothery Sike, Willygrass Bridge, Stythwaite Steps Bridge, and the Great Tongue have been installed.
- Path Repairs: Work has been done on paths at Loft Beck, Great Tongue, and areas affected by peat erosion between Lining Crag and Greenup Edge, as well as near Angle Tarn.
- Revetment Walls: The Honister Old Toll Road and Far Easedale paths have seen much-needed structural repairs.
- National Trail Signage: Brand-new signs are being created and installed this year, with completion expected by 2025.
These vital updates wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of Fix the Fells, whose volunteers have worked tirelessly to restore and maintain this beloved trail. Their efforts ensure that walkers can enjoy the Coast to Coast’s breathtaking beauty for generations to come.
Introducing Our Western 7-Day Guided Walk
Our 2025 14-Day Guided Coast to Coast Walks have been in unprecedented demand this year. With just one remaining spot on our May departure, we’ve introduced a new Western 7-Day Guided Walk in August.
This new itinerary allows more walkers to experience the Coast to Coast Trail in a guided setting, covering its spectacular western section. It’s the perfect opportunity for those looking to take part in a shorter, but equally stunning, journey along this historic route.
Taking on the Cumbria Way
In late 2024, we added the Cumbria Way to our walking holiday portfolio. This self-guided experience offers a fresh adventure for those who have already completed the Coast to Coast or are looking for a new way to explore the Lake District.
The Cumbria Way is a six- to seven-day trek that showcases some of the most scenic parts of the Lake District, crossing paths with the Coast to Coast while offering its own unique charm. Whether you’re summiting the Old Man of Coniston or relaxing on a lake steamer, this route provides a perfect blend of challenge and reward. Take a look at the official Cumbria Way Walking Holiday.
Staff Changes
This year, we’ve welcomed some wonderful new faces to our team!
In June, Tegan joined us all the way from Australia. If you follow us on social media (and if you’re not already, what are you waiting for?), you’ve probably seen her work—she’s the voice behind our posts. Be sure to say “G’day!” if you get the chance!
In November, Kate came on board to take care of our group bookings. She’s been doing an incredible job, managing everything with ease and enthusiasm.
Most recently, Hannah stepped in to cover for Abby while she’s on maternity leave. And speaking of Abby, we’re thrilled to introduce the tiniest new addition to our extended team… baby Harper!
Looking Ahead
2024 has been an extraordinary year of growth and transformation. As we prepare for 2025 and the Coast to Coast’s elevation to National Trail status, we’re thrilled to continue enhancing the experiences we offer. Whether it’s through improved trails, new itineraries, or exciting additions like the Cumbria Way, we’re committed to making every journey unforgettable.
Thank you for walking with us, and here’s to even greater adventures in 2025.
